Cruising in a Bygone Era... Aboard the diplomat
FDR has been on board. So have the King and Queen of Denmark, and famed financier Bernard Baruch. Not to mention the U.S. Navy after she was pressed into service patrolling the Chesapeake bay during World War ii.
Even stripped of her teak decks and outfitted with a gun on her bow, the 135 foot diplomat never lost her elegant bearings. She was built in 1930 for the president of standard oil of New Jersey, who entertained the rich and famous of a bygone era.
Well, not altogether bygone. the ambience of the 1930's has been recreated for you. The original tin ceiling has been replicated. The ocean liner posters are originals. And don't miss the 1864 naval officer's battle sword in the antique vitrine on the lower deck. The portholes and windows have been refitted from J.P. Morgan's yacht Jezebel and the queen Mary.
Rich in history, Rich in luxury Welcome Aboard the Diplomat * the diplomat is U.S. Coastguard certified for up to 200 passengers
